PEARCEDALE pacer Singasongasixpence remains unbeaten after winning the $20,000 Moonee Valley Harness Racing Cup (2100 metres) on Saturday night.
But the three-year-old, trained, driven and owned by local talent Simone Walker, faces even tougher times in the weeks ahead.
Walker will decide this week whether or not she will start Singasongasixpence in the $50,000 Victoria Sires Classic on 29 December and pit her horse against New South Wales champion Lombo Pocket Watch that has won 19 of its 20 starts and won’t be easily beaten.
Walker acknowledged that Lombo Pocket Watch has a wealth of winning experience.
“My horse has done everything I have asked of him, but Lombo Pocket Watch is a very seasoned racehorse,” she said.
“Singasongasixpence is still green, but is learning more and more with each race and getting better.
“I suppose the pair have to clash at some stage, so it may as well be then,” she said.
On Saturday night, Singasongasixpence drew barrier 11 and dropped out early before whipping around the field after 800-metres.
Walker sat outside the leader, Galveron, for the next 1300 metres, before launching a head-to-head battle over the last 400.
Singasongasixpence, part owned by AFL players Heath Scotland and Chris Tarrant, drew clear in the final stages to record the historic victory.
Walker said the big group of owners made an almighty noise.
“Naturally the owners are enjoying it because the horse is winning, and it’s great, but they are so loud when I return after the race,” she said.
“Hopefully he can keep winning and eventually I’ll get to used to the noise.”
