Trees of learning

STUDENTS at Fountain Gate Primary School got their hands dirty putting shovel to soil to help the environment on Monday.
Students gave up their time to plant trees in an open area of Ryelands Drive, with the help of Casey Council staff, as part of the school’s environmental education program.
Environmental Education Specialist Joan Gaudion said the tree planting activity gave students the opportunity to put something back into the community.
“It is part of our learning community philosophy for students to be actively involved in supporting the wider community.
“There are a number of open spaces throughout the City of Casey that we can beautify. “We want to adopt an area that we can take responsibility for looking after,” she said.
Ms Gaudion said the students loved planting trees, with many discovering their green thumbs.
“The students do this a lot within the school but part of developing a sense of belonging to the community is to plant trees throughout the city,” she said.
