ENDEAVOUR United has wrenched itself from the bottom of the Football Federation Victoria State League Division Three South-East ladder, claiming a breakthrough victory over Heatherton United on Saturday.
Having endured four draws in the first six weeks of the season, Endeavour United broke free of a 1-1 half-time deadlock to rout Heatherton 4-1 on a dreary afternoon at Reema Reserve.
Goals to Muhammed Kirmaci, Obed Baheerathan, Shane Savanah and Ashley Savanah put an end to Endeavour United’s recent scoring woes, allowing their side to vault above Sandringham City and Doveton on the table.
The Doves, who were rocked by the resignation of coach Sam Elmazi a fortnight ago, suffered a demoralising 5-1 loss to the Boroondara Eagles on Saturday.
A double from Boroondara’s Niki Cunningham allowed the home side to turn a 2-0 half-time lead into a punishing four-goal victory, while Doveton’s Miles Tidd netted a consolation goal in the second half.
Having topped the table just over a month ago, the Doves have now lost their last four games to slump into the divisional drop zone.
Meanwhile, a rousing second-half comeback allowed Berwick City to steal a point from its trip to Sandringham City on Saturday.
After trailing 2-0 at half-time, goals to Matthew Nitz, Justin Fernand and Orlando Mejias saw the visitors square the ledger at 3-3 before the final whistle.
After spliting the points, Berwick City is now in seventh spot on the ladder, while Sandringham City has been condemned to last place.
In State League Division Two South-East, the Casey Comets were on the road against struggling Port Melbourne.
Goals from Colin Stewart and Paul Presti – either side of half-time – allowed the fourth-placed Comets to secure an impressive 2-0 victory.
