A WOMAN was killed in a head-on collision in Clyde on Friday.
The 60-year-old Tyers woman was driving a white Ford along Berwick-Cranbourne Road, between Clyde-Five Ways Road and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, when she veered onto the other side of the road, striking another car.
Police said the driver of the other car, a 35-year-old Berwick woman, was travelling east with her toddler in the back seat at about 1.30pm.
The collision occurred as the Berwick woman approached a roundabout at the intersection of Clyde-Five Ways Road in her four-wheel drive.
She was taken to The Alfred hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries while her child was conveyed to the Royal Children’s Hospital, also with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford died at the scene. She was the sole occupant of the car.
The Country Fire Authority’s Langwarrin Rescue unit was called in to free the woman from the four-wheel drive while the child was airlifted to hospital. Berwick-Cranbourne and Clyde-Five Ways roads were blocked throughout the afternoon.
The death brought Victoria’s road toll to 69, one fewer than at the same time last year.
Acting Sergeant Alan Inderwisch from the Casey Traffic Management Unit (TMU) said inquiries into the crash were still ongoing.
He urged anyone with information to contact the TMU on 9705 3176 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
