TRACK dramas were a distant memory for Narre Warren’s Geoff Emery as he cruised to his best result of the year in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series on the weekend.
After slipping on brake fluid in round three and suffering from the error of another driver in round two, Emery was hoping to stay incident-free at the Queensland 400.
After qualifying in 13th position Emery flew in the first race, grabbing 11th place and finishing just four seconds behind race winner Dean Canto.
Finishing 14th and 13th in the next two races set Emery up for his best result of the year, finishing 13th overall for the weekend, and moving up to 16th place in the overall standings.
Emery said he was “pretty happy” with how the weekend turned out.
“We were able to complete all three races without damage,” he said
“We don’t have to replace any panels this time, so that’s really good.
“The guy that won the second race, Grant Denyer, his fastest lap time was only 0.3 seconds faster than us.
“We missed the reverse top 10 in race two by one position, which meant we missed out on pole by one position.
“The car speed is there, we just need to qualify a bit faster and we’ll be right up there.”
Emery said the only mechanical issue his team had was a problem with the gear box, which meant he was unable to use fourth gear for much of the weekend.
Emery said the next round at Winton was shaping up to be a good weekend for his team.
“We’re happy and looking forward to Winton next week, it’s usually our best round of the year,” he said.
Round five at Winton will be held on the weekend of 1 August, with qualifying and race one on Saturday, then race two and three on Sunday.
