BERWICK Springs Junior Cricket Club will gear up for its second season with a registration day at its new clubrooms this Saturday.
The club had only two teams in its debut season in the Dandenong District Cricket Association, but did manage to win an unlikely premiership in the under-13 Division Four grade.
Berwick Springs committee member Murray Gilchrist said the club was hoping to attract around 200 players this season.
Children between five and eight years old will participate in Milo Cricket – the sport’s answer to Australian Rules football’s successful AusKick program.
Gilchrist also expects the club to have an under-11 and under-15 team.
“Last year we weren’t too successful and there was not much happening, so we’re virtually starting now,” he said.
“The club’s committee is working hard and we’re trying to find sponsors at the moment.”
The club will have access to two more ovals at Berwick Springs Reserve next year, and Gilchrist believed this could lead to further player growth.
Berwick Springs Reserve is located on the corner of Glasscocks Road and Berwick Springs Promenade in Narre Warren South.
The registration day will run from 11am to 2pm.
