YEAR 9 students at Kambrya College in Berwick are set to receive a car for their work as part of a motor mechanic workshop.
Kirk Adams from Mack Towing was going to send his blue Ford Telstar to the wreckers when he decided to give it a better use and donate it to the college.
Kambrya College runs career workshops two days a week, with a motor mechanics journey being created around student demand.
One day a week,Year 9 students learn all the basic functions of a motor mechanic with the course being continued over in Year 10.
Indhiran Padayachee, motor mechanic and teacher of the class, has had plenty of experience and patience fixing cars through his work with the RACV.
Mr Padayachee works with students to pull apart two stroke and four stroke engines, car batteries and car engines that have all been donated to the college.
It was Mr Padayachee’s connection with Mr Adams, who he taught during his time at the RACV, which led to donation of the car.
“It has a neat body and working engine, so instead of it going to the wreckers he decided to donate it to the school for the class,” Mr Padayachee said.
By the end of the year, Mr Padayachee hopes to expand the college’s workshop and get more cars and engines in for his students to work on.
