POLICE have given the thumbs up to a well-behaved crowd at last weekend’s 2008 MRA Cranbourne GP run.
After stepping up patrols with Traffic Management Units (TMU) from Dandenong, Cardinia and Frankston police stations, Casey TMU Sergeant Pat McGavigan said no arrests were made by police during the event.
He said sufficient planning and resources ensured a successful family event in Cranbourne.
“Everything ran smoothly and we thank the public for their cooperation despite many drivers being held up due to the roads being blocked off,” Sgt McGavigan said.
More than 25 police from Cranbourne, Narre Warren and Endeavour Hills were at the event that attracted more than 10,000 people.
High Street in Cranbourne, between Stawell Street and Sladen Street, was reduced to one lane for both north and south-bound traffic from 8am to 11.15am.
Sgt McGavigan said no motorists were booked for speed-related offences.
“There was a collision which caused the Phillip Island Tourist Road to be closed for a short period,” he said.
Sgt McGavigan said communication between the lead police riders and police at the scene ensured the ride did not stop until the track in Phillip Island.
Police said they were satisfied with the whole weekend and thanked the City of Casey, MRA and the public for their cooperation.
