Suffragette

YOUNG women in the City of Casey have celebrated their right to vote for the government of their choice, 100 years after this right was granted to Victorian women.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley spent the past four weeks visiting students in Years 11 and 12 at Kambrya College, Beaconhills College and Narre Warren South P-12 College to celebrate the anniversary of women’s suffrage.
Ms Graley presented the students with a commemorative poster and showbag to mark the occasion.
The students also signed the Monster Petition, a replica of the original Monster Petition, which collected 30,000 signatures in six weeks in 1908 in support of women’s right to vote.
Ms Graley is one of 38 women in the Victorian Parliament today, who together make up one-third of Victoria’s parliamentarians.
