Shop attack ‘stupid’- Andrew Wagstaff,

By Lia Bichel
A RANDOM act of stupidity. That’s how the owner of Bob Jane T-Mart in Narre Warren has labelled a weekend incident involving his tyre shop.
Andrew Wagstaff was referring to the glass panel in the front door being smashed and two 19-inch computer monitors being taken from the front counter.
Police said six wheel rims, valued at $250 each, may also have been stolen.
“Security went for a drive after the incident and found the monitors smashed,” Mr Wagstaff said. “It’s surprising. Why would anyone steal monitors and just smash them?”
The window and monitors had to be replaced straight after the break-in, interrupting regular operations.
Mr Wagstaff said the interruptions were frustrating but the scariest moment was when the phone rang in the middle of the night.
It was security telling him about the theft, he said, but “when you’re in a deep sleep you’re not expecting the phone to ring”. Two of his sons were out that night and he feared something terrible might have happened.
“It’s scary. It could have been anything,” he said.
Mr Wagstaff said the incident was an invasion of privacy and he hoped it wouldn’t happen again.
Next time thieves might be greeted by two rottweilers or an electric fence, he joked.
“If I could, I would have security guards,’ he said. “Or a large electric fence so they would get a good shock to the system.”
