ROUND five of the Dandenong District Cricket Association kicked off on Saturday and for the most part the bowlers ruled the day.
Day one of the two-day games saw many sides struggle with the willow, though Doveton was the exception with an impressive 306 from its 80 overs.
TURF ONE

@BT Sub Sport News:Hallam-Kalora Park v Springvale South

Played at Alex Nelson Reserve, Hallam-Kalora Park won the toss and sent the visitors into bat, a decision that paid dividends early.
The home side scooped two early wickets, leaving Springvale South on 2/12, before Andrew Sharp joined Steven Masterson at the crease.
The pair established a solid partnership and kept the runs ticking over, knocking 112 before Sharp (68) finally fell.
Masterson held firm and saw off another two partners before falling himself for 66, but by then the damage was done and Springvale South took a hold on the game.
The visitors were eventually all out for 249 off 78.2 overs, with Leigh Booth the major influence with the ball, picking up his first five-wicket haul for the season.
Hallam-Kalora Park had the dangerous task of seeing out one over before the close of play, but did so successfully and will resume this Saturday without score.

@BT Sub Sport News:Narre Warren v Cranbourne

Runs were in short supply at Sweeney Reserve with just four of the 20 batsmen who took to the crease reaching double figures.
Narre Warren won the toss and took to the field and the bowlers struck early, removing Cranbourne’s top three for just eight runs.
Captain Ross Woodall (45), batting at number-four, provided a rare knock in adverse conditions, posting his best score for the season when his side needed it most.
But Woodall had little support, with Shane Murdoch (17) the only other to reach double figures and the side collapsed to be all out for 87 off 47 overs.
Narre Warren’s bowlers shared the wickets, but David Wheeler stood out with 3/23 off nine.
But Cranbourne’s bowlers had not written their side off and set about defending the paltry total with vigour.
Aside from a decent opening stand from Wendell Perumal (24) and Ruwantha Fernandopulle (11), Narre Warren had nothing to offer with the bat, collapsing to be 6/67 at the close of play, still needing 21 runs for the first-innings points.

@BT Sub Sport News:Berwick v Coomoora

Berwick broke its form slump with a solid knock against Coomoora at Arch Brown Reserve, with the home side enjoying contributors right throughout the innings.
The reigning premiers have been dismal in the last two rounds and are languishing in eighth position on the ladder, but look to have turned a corner after posting 7/251 against Coomoora.
Gavan Wills (62) and Englishman Alex Roberts (45) led the way at the crease, combining for a crucial 78-run stand when the innings was in the balance.
For Coomoora, Dillon Fernandez was outstanding with the ball, picking up 2/23 off 14 overs, further establishing his credentials as an economical wicket-taker.

@BT Sub Sport News:Doveton v St Mary’s

Doveton posted the highest Turf One score of the day, smashing its way to 8/306 against St Mary’s at Robinson Reserve.
St Mary’s won the toss and, like most clubs on Saturday, sent the opposition in to bat, but Doveton relished the conditions, with Ryan Pearson (79) and Shaun Tongue (55) combining for a 68-run third-wicket stand.
The pair fell, but Ryan Hendy (71 not-out) continued the chase, helping his side past the 300 mark.
For the visitors, Druvie Lorenz Daniel had the best figures, picking up 3/69 off 17 overs.
TURF TWO

@BT Sub Sport News:HSD v Southern Pirates

HSD is on the way to an outright victory after claiming first-innings points against Southern Pirates at Reedy Reserve on Saturday.
The home side posted 210 off 51 overs, with Scott Brandon (82) and captain Trevor Davies (50) helping the total along, but Southern Pirates’ Peter Atkinson was the star of the first innings, collecting 7/83 off 22.2 overs.
The Pirates took to the crease with an achievable total in their sights, but had little to offer with the blade.
Ben Doran (4/36) and Justin Davis (2/7) did the damage at the top of the order and James Van Elewoud took just two overs to clean up the tail, claiming 3/4, dismissing the Pirates for 69.
After taking the points, HSD enforced the follow-on and the Pirates fared little better in the second innings, slumping to 2/13 at the close of play.

@BT Sub Sport News:Fountain Gate v Berwick

Both Fountain Gate and Berwick will be confident heading into day two of their clash at Max Pawsey Reserve, after the teams shared the honours on day one.
Berwick went into bat and handled the conditions well, posting 204 off 75.5 overs.
Justin Stanton (34) got the run chase going at the top of the order and the side had contributors throughout, with Cameron Henry (45) and captain Robert Chilver (39) the best of the bunch.
Sanjeeva Udumalagala (3/48) and David Lucas (3/31) did the damage with the ball and played a big part in keeping the total down.
The home side faced four overs before stumps and that was long enough for Berwick to strike, with Stephen Tolley picking up Cory Wilson for one.

@BT Sub Sport News:Hampton Park v Lyndale

Hampton Park’s Daniel Redfern snared six wickets in an impressive bowling display, helping his side dismiss Lyndale for 154 runs at Booth Reserve, on Saturday.
Hampton Park appeared to have the ascendancy in the match with only two Lyndale batsmen, Cameron Thompson (48) and Keith Ash (42) making an impact.
Redfern, who picked up 6/30 off 20 overs, led the bowling charge, but his side was unable to back it up when it took to the crease late in the day.
Hampton Park had to see out 19 overs before stumps and the side struggled from the outset, dropping four wickets for 24 runs.

@BT Sub Sport News:Mordialloc v Maranatha Methodist

Maranatha Methodist has a big task ahead of it this Saturday after struggling to contain Mordialloc’s batsmen at Ben Kavanagh Reserve on day one of their clash.
Captain Tim Richardson defied the visitor’s bowlers, belting 93 at the top of the order and he combined with Adam Hodgson for a 104-run second-wicket stand to put Maranatha Methodist on the back foot.
The majority of the bowling work fell to two men, Darryl Turner and Paul Goodchild.
The duo bowled 57 of the 80 overs between them and they shared the wickets as well, with Turner collecting 5/97 and Goodchild 4/79.
Mordialloc reached 9/257 before stumps were called.
