A CASEY councillor is rounding up the troupes to host an entertainment event to say thankyou to the firefighters, police and emergency crews for battling through the bushfires.
River Gum ward councillor Wayne Smith told the News the idea stemmed from watching the horrendous footage on television.
“I just wanted to show my support and to do something for them,” he said.
With ideas and plans still up in the air, Cr Smith said a free concert for the firefighters, their families and the community was on the cards. “It will be a tribute to people associated with the tragic fires – those who lost their lives, their homes and the people who worked tirelessly and at great risk to fight the fires,” he said.
Cr Smith suggested that a fund-raiser also be incorporated into the event. “It could be a thankyou and fund-raising night as every little bit of money raised helps,” he said.
The event is set to take place in March or April and will showcase local singers and dancers.A meeting will be held tonight (Thursday) at the City of Casey council offices at 7.30pm for anyone wishing to help organise the event.
