CRANBOURNE RSL Bowls Club produced some interesting results in Round 17 that saw ladder placings change dramatically.
Coatesville defeated Cranbourne RSL at home by one shot in a thrilling contest between two teams striving to hit form before the upcoming finals.
The RSL started slowly, but fought back before some loose bowls under pressure gave Coatesville the break required to hold on for victory.
Bentleigh, Cranbourne RSL, Coatesville and Cheltenham will play finals in this division.
The RSL takes on Cheltenham at home in a must-win clash this weekend.
Scores: Coatesville 97 d Cranbourne RSL 96.
Coaches’ award: Neil Drummond (three votes), Mick West (two) and Bill Bradbury (one).
The RSL and top side Cranbourne couldnot be split after 100 ends in a nail-biting local derby last Saturday.
Cranbourne RSL has beaten both ladder leaders over the past two weeks and needs to overcome Heathmont in the last home-and-away round to have any chance of making the finals.
Scores: Cranbourne RSL (2) 91 drew with Cranbourne 91.
Coaches’ award: Bob Preston (three), Rick Crawford (two), Len Clarke (one).
A barbecue and the counting of coaches’ awards will follow the completion of the regular season this Saturday.
