CARDINIA Shire’s autumn harvest of apples will be celebrated at Cardinia Ranges Farmers’ Market on Saturday 11 April at Pakenham Racecourse from 8am till noon.
In addition to all the regular farmers’ market stallholders selling delicious autumn produce there will be a wide variety of activities on the Saturday morning.
Cardinia Ranges Farmers Market co-ordinator Suzzi Carter-Madej said there would be a bountiful harvest of locally grown apples for sale and a wonderful display of heritage apples to taste so that visitors could pre-order apple trees of their choice.
“Kids will have the chance to meet Aussi Apple who will be sharing the spirit of the Easter hunt and giving prizes to the winners of the Aussi Apple and Mr Chesty colouring competition,” she said.
“Little cooks in the kitchen master cooking classes will start at 9am and feature a menu of apple pancakes and fresh apple juice.”
Farmers’ market committee member Jane James said that Lizzy Lizards also make an appearance at the April market.
“Lizzy Lizards will allow children to get up close to a whole range of interesting reptiles,” she said.
Organisers are also delighted to be supporting the Pakenham Springs Primary School’s edible community garden project, through the Cardinia Ranges Farmers’ Market Sponsorship Scheme.
“The gold coin entry donation this month will be helping to get the garden started,” Ms James said.
