Principal take over- Alyssa, Amy, Stephen Wigney, John Poulakakis, Leyla and Hannah celebrate

By Lia Bichel
A POPULAR football administrator recently took the principal’s chair at Berwick Fields Primary School.
John Poulakakis left his duties as Chief Commercial Officer for the Melbourne Football Club to shadow the school’s principal Mr Stephen Wigney.
The ‘Principal for a Day’ event was delivered by the Australian Council for Educational Research in partnership with the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
This year’s theme focussed on ‘Schools connecting with business and communities’.
Mr Poulakakis began his day learning about the philosophy behind the development of the school. ICT co-ordinator Rachel Rydqvist said he displayed a vested interest in how the school developed community relationships, as he saw this as vitally important in the development of Melbourne Football Club.
Ms Rydqvist said Mr Poulakakis attended a school assembly and shared in celebrating student achievements with the entire school community.
Following that he observed a staff meeting before addressing staff and reflecting on his own school experiences.
