Fire inspections to start

AS PART of preparations for the coming fire season, the City of Casey will be implementing its annual Fire Prevention Inspection Program from next month.
Council officers will be inspecting privately-owned, and council-owned and managed land from November in an effort to identify any properties that may require work to be undertaken to ensure the Casey community is as safe as possible.
Casey mayor Geoff Ablett said any properties identified as requiring works to be undertaken to reduce the risk of fire occurring will be issued with a fire prevention notice.
“Re-inspections of these private properties will then be undertaken to ensure compliance with the notice,” Cr Ablett said.
“Any properties found to be non-compliant will be subject to a penalty infringement notice. If necessary, the council will also undertake works at the owner’s expense,” he said.
Casey council is seeking the co-operation of all property owners in the municipality. The City of Casey is working closely with the local CFA, through the municipal fire prevention committee, to plan for and implement processes that will address wildfire risk.
In the lead-up to the fire season, the council will be conducting community information sessions to assist property owners to better understand their responsibilities pursuant to the Country Fire Authority Act 1958 in managing fire prevention activities on their properties.
