More security for licences

VICROADS will introduce a new, more secure driver licence, and will no longer issue licences over the counter.
The card has improved security features, including a clear strip in the middle of the card, making it hard to tamper with or replicate.
Member for Cranbourne, Jude Perera, who said the new licence will be issued to those receiving or renewing their licence after 23 November, urged local drivers to renew licences well before the expiry date.
“Drivers will receive a temporary driver licence receipt when they apply for a new or replacement licence, and they must have this receipt with them whenever they drive,” Mr Perera said.
“VicRoads has a network of 76 conveniently located photo points and 40 customer service centres where drivers can apply for their new or replacement licence.” Dale Andrea, VicRoads manager for Licensing and Identity Strategy, said that while the new licence cards will make it much harder to tamper with or create fake licences, Victoria could not be complacent about identity security.
