A LATE night Maccas run with a mate turned bad for a Berwick man last weekend after he was viciously attacked and robbed by two men.
Simon Day was walking to the Narre Warren McDonald’s restaurant in the early hours of Saturday morning, after a friend’s 21st birthday party, when he was attacked by the men, who have been described as of Pacific Islander appearance.
The 22-year-old was jumped by the men in the car park outside Rebel Sport about 1.30am.
While recovering at home this week with bruising to his face, Mr Day told the News he remembered the men asking for a cigarette lighter.
“My mate and I said we didn’t have one as we didn’t smoke and then bang, I got knocked to the head and my mate got bottled at the back of the head with a stubby,” he said.
“The next thing I recall is waking up on the grass and my friends telling me to talk, and that our wallets and phones had been stolen.”
Mr Day was knocked out from the hit and taken to Dandenong Hospital by ambulance with possible spinal injuries.
Senior Constable Lee Mainnie from the Casey Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) said the unknown men had stolen the victim’s wallet and mobile phone before fleeing the scene.
“It was my mum’s 50th birthday that day, so she was pretty devastated when she got to the hospital. And I feel sorry for my friend whose birthday it was as he was with me right after the attack.”
Mr Day’s friend, who was also injured in the assault, was taken to Casey Hospital.
Half an hour later, police said the same attackers struck again in Hallam.
Police said two men were walking south along Hinrichsen Drive about 2am when they were assaulted by the men with a metal pole or baseball bat.
One of the victims received lacerations to the top of his head and had his wallet and mobile phone stolen.
According to police, another person from a neighbouring house attempted to help the victims but was also struck to the face by the men.
Police said the offenders, believed to be wearing dark hooded tops, then entered that person’s property and smashed four car windows.
The attackers decamped north along the street and got into a dark-coloured sedan, possibly a Holden Commodore.
Mr Day said he was shocked that a vicious attack like that would happen in Casey.
“I won’t be heading for a Maccas stop at night any time soon,” he said.
Anyone with information is urged to call Senior Constable Lee Mainnie from the Casey CIU on 9705 3111.
