OLYMPIC champion Cathy Freeman will wave the chequered flag at this year’s MRA Cranbourne GP Run.
Ms Freeman, one of Australia’s best-loved Olympic champions, is set to send thousands of motorcycle riders on their journey to Phillip Island for the Moto GP on Saturday 16 October.
She had a long and distinguished career as one of the nation’s fastest female runners, and was the first female Australian Aboriginal to win a gold medal at an international athletics event at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland.
Since then, Ms Freeman has won numerous medals, including gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and silver at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Ms Freeman announced her retirement from competitive running in 2003.
The MRA GP Run starts at 8.15am, with Ms Freeman waving the riders off from a cherry picker at 10am on High Street in Cranbourne.
Ms Freeman is appearing at the event with the help from Saxton Corporation.
The 2010 MRA Cranbourne GP Run is proudly supported by the Motorcycle Riders Association Australia (MRA), Victoria Police, Star News Group and Cranbourne Chamber of Commerce.
