Pies blast Bloods

LOSING all of last week to weather, Springvale South and Narre Warren played a one-dayer with the Bloods winning the toss and batting first.
Springvale South slumped to 4/63 after some good bowling from Dushan Wickramaratne and James Giertz.
Steve Masterson held back the onslaught of the Magpies’ bowlers before he was dismissed for 19 off 58 balls.
With the score 5/71, the Bloods tail wagged hard as Jackson Sketcher made 39 off only 23 balls, with two fours and three sixes struck to all parts of Alex Nelson Reserve. The resistance of the tail gave Springvale South a fighting total of 8/181 to defend. Giertz claimed 3/30 and Wickramaratne 2/49 from their respective eight overs.
Narre Warren cantered home in 30.2 overs, with Wickramaratne showing all-round class with 74 not out off 54 balls, with eight fours and two sixes. He and Nathan King (62) put on 94 for the third wicket as the Magpies took the victory at 3/184.
The win puts Narre Warren just inside the top four while Springvale South slides to seventh.

Doveton won the toss and sent Hallam Kalora Park in on their home ground.
Hallam lost keeper batsman Nirman Jayasinghe (5) clean-bowled with just 19 runs on the board but the Booth boys – Leigh and captain Cory – rallied, scoring 31 and 41 respectively to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Brett Peters (50 not out) stole the show in the middle order, surviving a steady flow of wickets to push his side to a competitive total. Ryan Hendy and Corrie Wilson were the pick of the Doveton bowlers with seven wickets between them.
Chasing 199 to win, the visitors lost opener Matthew Hutchinson (16) early but recovered thanks to a 50-run stand between Brad Downe (30) and Shaun Tongue (21).
Doveton then lost both batsmen in the space of just one run before the side’s middle order steadied the ship.
Former Victorian opener Jason Arnberger (61 not out), batting at number six, combined with Nick Fairbank (49) to take Doveton past the 200 mark and on to victory.

Ryan Crawford’s day one century last week against Heinz Southern Districts put Berwick in the box seat and six wickets from bowlers Jarrod Goodes and Ashley Henry sealed the deal for the home side on the weekend.
The odds were stacked against HSD reaching the 305 required for victory but opener Adam Semmens (65) came to the crease in a positive frame of mind. He battled hard to keep his side in the contest but received little help aside from the Davies boys – Michael (27) and Trevor (26 not out).
Crawford completed an impressive all-around game, chiming in with two wickets as HSD was bowled out for 189 inside 68 overs.

Lyndale’s match with St Mary’s ended in a thrilling draw after the home side was unable to snare the final St Mary’s wicket late on day two.St Mary’s won the toss and sent Lyndale in on the first day’s play. They restricted the home side to a reachable 171, with Carman Mapatuna top scoring with just 34.
Angelo Dmello was the pick of the bowlers with 4/27 from his 14 overs, with Daniel Davis and Troy Wilson also snaring two wickets apiece.
St Mary’s toiled hard in reply but lost wickets consistently throughout day two, at one stage losing five wickets for just 12 runs. But Lyndale could not finish the visiting side off, which finished on 9/155 from its 58 overs – salvaging an unlikely draw.
Jaime Brohier was Lyndale’s best bowler, finishing with the impressive figures of 4/12 from seven overs.

@BT Sub Sport News:FOUNTAIN GATE v SILVERTON

Fountain Gate took first innings points against Silverton after being sent in to bat at Max Pawsey Reserve.
John Mirranay (47) was the innings mainstay as the home side stumbled to 145 all-out after 70 overs.
Anton Sabljak was the chief destroyer for Silverton with 5/37, backed up by Justin King’s 3/25.
But the visitors’ first innings made Fountain Gate’s score look mountainous in comparison, as Silverton collapsed to 70 all-out. Bryan Guthrie (5/28) and Daniel Ferguson (4/27) had a field day as no Silverton batsman scored more than 20.
Fountain Gate batted again, in the hope of scoring quick runs and putting Silverton back at the crease facing outright defeat.
But time was against the home side, which declared at 3/99 from 26 overs. Silverton survived the final 22 overs of the game, this time losing only one wicket for 69 runs.

@BT Sub Sport News:COOMOORA v NARRE SOUTH

Coomoora fought out a close battle with Narre South, winning by three wickets in an even contest at Coomoora Reserve.
Narre South won the toss and elected to bat, reaching 202 in the 80th over. Lower-order batsman Mark Nelson was the standout, before being run out on 59.
Earlier keeper-opening batsman Brendan Wilson (36) and opener Cory Wilson (22) got the Narre innings off to a steady start, reaching 64 before the loss of the first wicket.Coomoora looked in all sorts of trouble to start their innings, at one stage falling to 4/35. But Jason Bacic (36) and David Nutting (79) staged a remarkable comeback with a 113-run partnership for the fifth wicket to get their side back on track.
Lance Baptist and Rahoul Pankhania helped steer Coomoora home with 24 runs apiece. Mathew Pongracic was the pick of the Narre South bowlers with 4/80 from his 19 overs.

@BT Sub Sport News:ST BRIGID’S/ST LOUIS v SPRINGVALE SOUTH

St Brigid’s/St Louis won the toss at Bondi Oval and sent the visiting Springvale South side in to bat. It was a decision they’d later come to regret as Springvale South amassed 215 from their 67 overs.
Opening batsman Jai Boyd made a steady start to the innings with his 61 off 157 deliveries. He hit just four boundaries but refused to give his wicket away, setting the tone for his team-mates to follow.
Captain Roshan Perera (30) provided solid support. Adam Muirhead and Angus Macquire were St Brigid’s standout bowlers with 4/71 and 3/26 respectively.
St Brigid’s struggled in reply, reaching just 144 with the extras column (29) leading the scorers. Muirhead continued a strong all-around game with 21. Damian Stoter-Rainer was the pick of the Springvale South bowlers with an economical 4/21 from 11 overs.
With nothing to lose, Springvale South batted again chasing outright victory but lost a string of wickets and were forced to settle with first innings points.

@BT Sub Sport News:BUCKLEY RIDGES v SOUTHERN PIRATES

Buckley Ridges won the toss and chose to bat against the Southern Pirates at Park Oval but made a meal of the first innings, crumbling for just 112 off 54 overs.
Ridges lost their first four wickets for just 21 runs before Andrew Borgonha (18) and Tom Burke (37) went about steadying the ship. An even spread of Pirates wicket takers stole the show. Leigh Taylor led the way with three wickets, while Rohan Brainerd, Matthew Perry and Shannon Rozario each snared two.
In reply, the Pirates had their own struggles with the willow, losing their first three wickets for just 21 before captain Perry (37) and Leigh Taylor (38) stemmed the flow. The side was dismissed for 123 after 47 overs before Buckley Ridges batted again.
The home said made a better fist of their second dig, reaching 5/177 before declaring with a chance of victory.
But the Pirates’ batsmen also found form, losing just two wickets and batting out the rest of the game. Rozario (60 not out) capped off a fine all-around game with a second innings half-century.
