CFA volunteers from Narre Warren have joined the fight against a giant bushfire threatening homes in Gippsland.
The Narre Warren Fire Brigade has been sending about four members every day to the fire frontline.
Second Lieutenant Andrew Davey said the volunteers were both men and women aged from their twenties to their sixties.
“We sent a truck the first day with a crew and they were there for a couple of days,” Mr Davey said.
“Now we are sending relief crews since, to other brigades’ trucks.”
Mr Davey said that this was one of the biggest fires members had had to attend, second to those on Black Saturday.
He said the Narre Warren Fire Bridgade often got called on to help other brigades, which had been happening often this summer.
“A lot of our jobs this summer have been supporting other brigades,” he said.
“We have been taking a lot of calls and going to (local) fires – which is typical of summer, but there hasn’t been an increase in the area from other years.”
Mr Davey urged people to be aware of fires throughout Victoria and not to be complacent.
“People should stay informed and use the information provided through the CFA app and website, as well as listen to radio stations,” he said.
“If people don’t have a fire plan they need to make one today – regardless of where they live. Narre Warren lost houses on Black Saturday, proving that suburbs are not immune.”
