CARING canines in Casey will be looking slick with their shiny coats, as Parkhill Dog Grooming extends goodwill to service dogs in the community.
The Berwick-based dog grooming business is running a free service for all ‘carer dogs’ – giving something back to the pets who have been making life easier for their owners.
These dogs include guide dogs, police and custom dogs and other dogs that are keeping the community safe.
Co-owner of the grooming salon Elizabeth Harrigan saw it as a way to reward people in the community.
“We felt we should give back to the community,” she said.
“With so many people doing so many different things.”
Mrs Harrigan said she thought this was a beneficial service.
“I know a lot of people who take care of these dogs are volunteers or others can’t afford the grooming,” she said.
Having commenced at the start of April, the service will be running indefinitely, and according to owners has so far received a great response.
Mrs Harrigan said she had seen more guide dogs than any other type, but the service welcomed any dogs which were helping to care for someone in the community.
Mrs Harrigan said she wanted the owners of these service dogs to know someone is looking out for them.
“I feel it’s giving something back, and it’s a way of letting people know there are people who think about them,” she said.
The owners, who have just recently taken over, said their staff were enthusiastic about the service, which involves a full wash, ears cleaned, nails clipped and more.
