THE inaugural Casey Art Show went off without a glitch last week in what was a very successful weekend for the Rotary Club of Casey.
On Friday 5 July, the Rotary club hosted a gala dinner to begin what was anticipated would be a big weekend.
Much to the delight of Rotary Club of Casey projects manager Lindsay Rigby, about 120 people attended the gala evening and the event saw a large crowd pass through the exhibition over the weekend.
Berwick Mazda was a major sponsor of the event, which saw between 25 and 30 pieces of artwork sold.
There were 420 paintings on display in the exhibition with $7000 worth of prizes awarded on the Friday evening.
A number of different categories were open to enter pieces of work in.
These included Abstract which was won by Christabelle Toohey, Landscape which was taken out by Marilyn Close, Seascape which was won by Helen McKie, Still Life which was won by Lorraine Burns and Flora and Fauna which was collected by Lena Kukuy.
The overall award for Best in Show was won by Jo-Anne Seberry, and all categories were judged by Peter Petruccelli from Upper Beaconsfield.
Local artist Calvin Bell donated a painting to be raffled off during the night, which was collected by Mary Ann Fox.
General manager from Berwick Mazda, Tom Arnold, said the company was proud to support the Rotary Club of Casey in their first-ever art show.
“As a Berwick business we are always keen to support community initiatives,” he said.
“Being the major sponsor of the 2013 Rotary Casey Art Show provides our organisation with another opportunity to be involved in the Berwick community, and with the Rotary Club of Casey.”
Past president of the Rotary Club Trevor Fry said it was great to have Berwick Mazda on board.
“It is always a good feeling to have a sponsor of your projects,” he said.
