HALF way through last year, the Inner Wheel Club of Narre Warren lost one of its finest members, and now the club are planning a fitting tribute.
On 12 August last year, Shirley Brundrett lost her brave battle with cancer and left a hole in the Inner Wheel Club.
A charter member of the club, Shirley joined in 1980 when it first begun.
After Shirley passed away last year, her husband Bruce made a significant donation to the Inner Wheel Club of Narre Warren after its members catered for her funeral.
After much discussion, member of the Inner Wheel Club of Narre Warren, Chris McGill proposed that a memorial chair in Brundrett Road, Narre Warren be erected in her honour.
While council is still to officially approve the plans, Ms McGill and co-member of Inner Wheel Barbara Draude, are hopeful a seat will be constructed at some stage this year.
City of Casey Councillor Rosalie Crestani has been working alongside the Inner Wheel Club, as well as Shirley’s family members to have the steal installed.
“Next month marks the first anniversary of Shirley’s passing,” Cr Crestani said.
“Together with the Inner Wheel and the City of Casey, we are aiming to meet this date and to install the memorial seat and plaque.”
According to Ms McGill, Ms Brundrett was a resident of Brundrett road for 27 years, and the inner wheel club are hoping the seat will be installed at a rose garden along the road.
Fittingly, Ms McGill explained that in the earlier days of Ms Brundrett’s involvement in the club, she used to arrange for roses to be sent to the homes of the rotary club members when their wives had a birthday.
Ms McGill said she thought it was approrpoiate to dedicate something like this to Mrs Brundrett given how much she gave to the club.
“We thought it would be fitting to put something up in Narre Warren,” she said.
Councillor Crestani agreed it was necesary that the club acknolwedge the hard work of the member.
“The Inner Wheel are honouring Shirley as she was their own, working alongside and together for the benefit of so many.”
