Fishing grants up for grabs

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

IT’S that time again for local sailors to ‘go fish’.
Applications are now open for the 2013/14 Recreation Fishing Grants Program that was first introduced in 2001.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan encouraged local residents to apply for the grants.
“The recreational fishing grants program is a good way for angling clubs and community groups to gain funding for their projects,” he said.
“There are both small grants of up to $5000 as well as large grants of between $5001 and $100,000 available.”
Small grants are open for application all year, while large grant applications will be accepted until 28 February, and are available in four categories.
“More funding for more clubs that promote outdoor recreational activities are not only important for the clubs themselves, but for the health of our local communities,” Mr Donnellan said.
“Healthy clubs and organisations go hand to hand with healthy communities.”
