Play for all

By BRIDGET COOK

LOCAL school kids have been digging deep to help ensure an inclusive playspace in Casey can reach its full potential.
Students at Cranbourne West Primary School raided their piggy banks and came to school in casual clothes for a gold coin donation to raise $370 for charity Touched by Olivia.
The charity is planning on building an inclusive playspace in Marriott Waters where children of all abilities can play side by side, but still need to raise money to achieve their dream design.
Community driver behind the playspace, Therese Howell, said schools and organisations across Casey were helping in small and big ways to raise funds for this exciting project.
“I am so moved that the school was able to make such a big contribution towards Livvi’s Place,” she said.
“This is a huge effort from a local school within a financially disadvantage area of 570 students.
“It shows the local passion for the project and the commitment by the school to encourage students to belong and give back to their community.”
Ms Howell urged other schools and businesses to do the same over the next month, whether it be through a casual day, morning tea and something different.
Cranbourne West Primary School parent and community liaison Debbie Dodd said this was the school’s way of giving back.
“The school feels it is important to get the children involved in helping others and show that we can do our bit for the community,” she said.
“Once we were told about this playspace, we thought it was a great thing we could assist with and it sounded like a great charity that was supporting the local community.”
