Growing the future

STUDENTS at River Gum Primary School did their bit for the local environment when they took part in Schools Tree Day last month.
The students got their hands dirty and planted native trees and shrubs as part of the nationwide event which is aimed at teaching children how to plant and care for the seedlings they grow.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley donated the plants to the school and joined the students for a day in the garden.
“The enthusiasm displayed by students and staff ensured the day was a fantastic success and an important step in protecting our local environment,” Ms Graley said.
“I was particularly impressed by the knowledge of the children on the need to keep planting native trees and shrubs.
“I have no doubt that the students will take great care of their new plants and will take great pride in watching them flourish in the years to come.
“We must continue to do all we can as community to protect the environment in which we live by planting native trees and plants in our schools and parks.”
