POLICE are appealing for any help in their investigation into a spate of recent home burglaries throughout Casey, which has seen around $1 million worth of property stolen.
Since August this year, police have responded to 23 burglaries in the Lynbrook area, the majority occurring between 9am and 5pm when residents were not at home.
And over the past month there have been an additional 17 reported burglaries in the Casey Police Service Area, and its understood the majority of these incidents occurred while residents were at home.
Southern Metro region Senior Sergeant Terry Rowlands said a range of highly valuable items were being stolen in the burglaries.
“Cash, safes, computers, vehicles and 22-carat jewellery are amongst the items that have been taken,” he said.
“We’re estimating the values of these items are in the vicinity of $1 million.”
Sen Sgt Rowlands said there appeared to be a distinct link between the Lynbrook burglaries.
“It’s fair to say these crimes are linked with the same offenders or group of offenders using forced entry to enter empty premises overnight and helping themselves to what they can find,” he said.
Sen Sgt Rowlands said residents were continuing to leave their garages and rear doors unlocked.
“Thieves are walking into these premises without any hassles, stealing car keys and valuables – and making off with these property items and the family car,” he said.
“We’re asking the community for their help in applying simple security measures.
“Install good quality locks on doors and windows and use these at all times, even when you’re at home.
“It’s also a good idea to make your house look occupied at all times by asking a neighbour to bring in your mail and bins while you’re away.”
