TWO men have allegedly taken a stolen car and stolen petrol from a Narre Warren North service station during a joyride to South Australia.
Monash Crime Investigation Unit detectives say that a 2014 black Holden Commodore was stolen with numerous other items during a home burglary at Highland Avenue, Oakleigh East, about 2.30am on 30 August.
The car was spotted as it was filled up with $74 of petrol at a petrol station on Heatherton Road, Narre Warren North, about 2.45am on 3 September.
Police have released CCTV images of the driver outside the car at the service station.
A male passenger is believed to be inside the vehicle.
After waving to the servo’s attendant, the driver drove away without paying.
Later that morning the car was reported to be speeding through Tailem Bend in South Australia.
The car was found abandoned after hitting a tree in the country town of Monarto about 7.30am.
Witnesses say two men fled from the car and stole a second vehicle – a white 2014 Ford Ranger ute with South Australian registration plate S341 BCY and blue ‘Viterra’ logos on the front doors.
Police say the pair may have returned to Victoria in the ute.
One of the wanted pair is described as Caucasian, in his early 20s and of a thin build.
