ATTENTION all hip-hop dancers and beat boxers in Casey and Dandenong.
Applications are now open for the 2015 Fired Up Hip Hop Tournament, to be held later this year.
The City of Casey has partnered with the City of Greater Dandenong and Replay Dance Productions to run the tournament, organised by a group of volunteers aged 12 to 25 from across the municipalities.
Applications, for both groups and individuals, will be open until Friday 16 October and include four categories – breaking, beat boxing, urban choreography and individual freestyle.
“This tournament is aimed at young emerging dance crews and individuals who have not won a major competition in the past,” Casey mayor Mick Morland said.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for up and coming crews to showcase their talents to the community, gain experience performing in front of a crowd and compete for great prizes.
“With the support of the two councils and Replay Dance Productions, this tournament is being organised by a passionate and enthusiastic group of young people who should be commended for the wonderful work they’re doing.”
Individuals and groups wishing to compete must register their act with the council before Friday 16 October by downloading the application form at www.casey.vic.gov.au/youth
“The council encourages our talented young people to start rehearsing, to get ready to battle it out and show off your moves at Fired Up! in November,” Cr Morland said.
The hip-hop tournament will take place on Saturday 21 November at the Berwick Church of Christ Auditorium, 432-446 Centre Road, Berwick, between 12.30pm and 9pm.
Tickets for spectators will go on sale at 9am on 26 October and can be purchased at www.trybooking.com/ILXT
