Raising the roof

Student basketballers are playing it sun-safe under a spectacular outdoors roof at Strathaird Primary School.
The gracefully-curved structure towering over two basketball courts had been a project several years in the making, says principal Martin Shepherd.
“We have a unique design that protects our students, particularly from the sun but also looks fantastic.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide outdoor physical education lessons in any weather as well as protect our students from harmful UV rays.”
The State Government threw in $100,000 towards the project.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Couacaud Graley said she couldn’t wait to see how the huge space was utilised.
One of the left-field uses was providing coverage for a ’nude food’ picnic.
The lunch celebrated the school’s successful ‘nude food’ campaign – that is a drive to reduce rubbish such as food packaging.
