School books in state’s ‘First Lady’

By Cam Lucadou-Wells

Narre Warren North Primary School book-loving students were recently awarded with a very special visit.
The bibliophilic school had amazingly finished 12,290 books in the recent Premiers Reading Challenge.
In light of the achievement, its school captains wrote to Premier Daniel Andrews to personally present certificates to its 334 students.
Unfortunately Mr Andrews wasn’t able to attend, but his wife Catherine Andrews was an inspired and popular delegate.
Bulk reading is nothing new for these students. Last year the students read 11,652 during their first ever Challenge.
It was an all-school effort, says principal Connie vanderVoort.
Led by the school’s reading-challenge co-ordinator Katherine Darbyshire, teachers heavily promoted the event.
Students were given time during classes to log their books into the challenge’s website.
“It is an outstanding achievement,” Ms vanderVoort said.
