You’ve nominated roads for our congestion poll, you’ve voted and results are clear – Clyde Road is the worst congestion road in the City of Casey by a long mile – and also takes the title as the worst congestion road in the South East.
But it’s by no means the only congestion road in Casey, with Soldiers Road, Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road and Thompsons Road receiving strong nominations, with Kangan Drive, Hall Road and Evans Road receiving dishonourable mentions.
The poll result is the latest weapon in our campaign to highlight the state of congested South East roads in the lead-up to the State Election on 24 November.
Over the past few months we’ve asked you to share the frustrations of your daily commute, and to participate in the poll.
“We already have major upgrades underway that will relieve the pressure on each of these roads,” Labor Member for Narre Warren North and Minster for Roads Luke Donnellan said.
“We’re removing the dangerous and congested level crossing on Clyde Road in Berwick, widening Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road from two to four lanes and, as part of the $711 Monash Freeway Upgrade Stage Two, we’re extending O’Shea Road, from Soldiers Road so it connects to the Beaconsfield interchange.
“Compare this to the Liberals who, when last in power, didn’t get a single major infrastructure project done, cut train services, slashed roads spending and sacked 450 people from VicRoads.”
Liberal candidate for Narre Warren South Susan Serey said, “The Liberals already have a strong record of road investment, including duplication of Hallam Road and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road.
“As a local councillor, resident and local Liberal candidate, I know more needs to be done.
“I am proud to be part of Matthew Guy’s team which has a plan to get back in control of traffic congestion and our clogged outdated roads.”
Liberal has committed to invest $130m to duplicate Berwick-Cranbourne Road, complete the Beaconsfield interchange and the extension of O’Shea Road to connect with the Beaconsfield interchange and to make improvements to Thompsons Road to ensure local traffic congestion eases.
Ms Serey said she is “fighting for improvement to Clyde Road and Soldiers Road”.
