A variety of performers from all over the region lifted the roof at the first round of auditions for the annual Star Search competition last weekend.
“We had a lot of new faces, new people that we’ve never seen before!’ director Louise Berkelmans said.
As well as younger kids, she said there were lots of adults giving singing a go this year too for the first time.
The performances ran the full gamut of music, with rockabilly, ballads and music theatre on show.
The second round of auditions will be held on Sunday 2 June at Hillcrest Christian College in Clyde North from 3pm, with registrations closing at 4pm. The registration fee is $15, and audiences are asked to provide a gold coin donation which goes towards cancer research.
Organisers are hoping to see more people in the 15-20-year-old age bracket.
Ms Berkelmans said the competition has a positive vibe, with friends and family coming to support performers and getting behind local talent.
And while there are shaking hands and lots of nerves, the performers finish with a smile, she said.
“We run this to promote local talent as well as raising money for cancer research. We’re always encouraging everybody, we want everybody to enjoy the experience,” she said.
