School scores a goal with new soccer hub

Students at Narre Warren South P-12 College and the broader community can now enjoy a brand new soccer pitch, complete with training facilities, floodlighting, and pavilion.

Narre Warren South MP Gary Maas represented the Minister for Education to officially open the site, alongside the Casey mayor Amanda Stapledon, much to the delight of the students who can now use this world-class facility.

As part of the Shared Facilities Fund, Narre Warren South P-12 College received $1.5 million in State Government funding to deliver the new synthetic soccer pitch and pavilion.

The new facilities function as a dual-purpose space, with the school utilising it during the day and the Council’s local community and sporting groups able to access the area after hours for physical education programs and training.

The project includes classrooms, four change rooms and toilet facilities, as well as a kiosk, first aid and cleaner rooms, and a storage space.

Mr Maas said the upgrade would allow the Narre Warren South community to access the brand new shared sporting facilities, and “help foster a sense of community spirit that extends outside the boundaries of a soccer pitch.”

“It is so important that our students and our communities have access to high quality infrastructure that lets them not just have fun, but develop and grow through physical education and team sports,” he said.

“Who knows, the next soccer superstar may come from Narre Warren South with the help of these new facilities.”

Cr Stapledon said council was proud to partner with the State Government and the Narre Warren South Prep-12 College to deliver the “wonderful community facility”.

“Facilities such as this are crucial to supporting the sport and recreation needs of our growing municipality and the Joint Use Agreement with the College will ensure optimum use of the facility throughout the day, as well as out of school hours and on weekends,” she said.
