Human remains found

Police have found human remains during a search in Lysterfield which is believed to be linked to a missing persons case.

Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad were in the area as part of an ongoing investigation when the remains were located in a semi-rural area near Nixon Road about 1.30pm on Wednesday 17 June.

Police are treating the discovery as suspicious but have yet to reveal the reasons why as this stage.

A post mortem will now be conducted to determine the person’s death.

In a statement, Victoria Police said the exact circumstances regarding the incident are yet to be determined, however police believe it is likely to be connected to a current missing persons case.

“Police do not believe it is linked to the investigation into missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay or missing Lakes Entrance man Dale Pantic,” the statement said.

“Further information will be provided once forensic testing of the remains has taken place.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
