CASEY residents came together this week to celebrate the city’s multicultural diversity.
On Tuesday the John Pandazopoulos Hall Committee of management hosted festivities as part of “Celebrate our Cultural Diversity Week” activities.
Tuesday was also Harmony Day, and from 11am to 2pm the multicultural communities that use the Doveton Hall celebrated with multicultural displays, a costume parade, music, dancing and singing, and a multicultural lunch.
Eleven multicultural seniors groups who have met at the hall every week for the past eight years took part in the Harmony Day activities.
Former Casey councillor Brian Oates is chairperson of the Hall Committee of Management and said the continued harmonious workings of these groups and their coming together for celebrations such as this was a great example of community harmony and co-operation.
“Each cultural background was featured in the parade of costumes, singing, communal dancing and food fair.
“At this time, it is great to be able to focus on the positive ongoing achievements of our multicultural communities and the wealth of experiences these people can and do share with the greater community” Mr Oates said.
