Concert in aid of late band member fund

Casey Concert Band is swinging behind a charity founded after one of its late, much-loved members.
The band, supported by Down South Big Band and Berwick Grammar School Big Band, will play a wide selection of swing-jazz tunes in the ‘Swing into Spring’ performance.
All proceeds will be donated to the Jared Dunscombe fund – a charity founded in memory of the band’s former trumpeter and Cranbourne Rotarian.
Mr Dunscombe was an inspirational figure, who defied near-death when struck by a car at age seven.
He spent weeks in a coma, learnt to walk and talk again and trod an extraordinary path – studying at university, starting a sports store, trekking Kokoda and joining the Queens Baton Relay as part of the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
He was also a keen community citizen – involved in charity and a group Teenagers Road Accident Group.
He was killed tragically as a 31-year-old when he fell from his bike and was struck by a truck-and-trailer during a charity cycling event in 2013.
The Jared Dunscombe Fund supports one major community project each year.
This year it supports training facilities for Righteous Dogs Australia – which train companion dogs for at-risk, autistic and type-1 diabetic kids.
In the past, it funded transporting an eight-year-old child from East Timor to Australia for life-saving heart surgery, and a skin-screening program to eradicate scabies in remote Indigenous communities.
Jared’s sister Jonelle Dunscombe, along with other vocalists Dianne Vanderveld and Christine Neaves will perform at the Swing into Spring concert.
The event is on Sunday, 29 October at 2pm at St Margaret’s School auditorium, Berwick.
Bookings: trybooking.com/314523 or Greg on 0421 611 930.
