A Narre Warren grandmother’s faith in humanity has been restored after losing a gift she had purchased for her daughter whose home burned down.
Pam thought she had lost all hope after leaving behind the gift, being an electric blanket, near a bench outside Coles at Fountain Gate shopping centre on Tuesday morning, 7 May.
But to her relief she received a welcome phone call from Fountain Gate centre management offering her a $100 Westfield gift voucher.
“I was really pleasantly surprised,” the pensioner said.
“At first I thought it was to say that someone had handed in the electric blanket.”
Pam, who asked not to publish her surname, said the electric blanket was intended as a gift for her daughter who “lost everything” after her home burned down following a fire last November.
She caught a taxi home with her husband from the centre but said “it didn’t event twig that I didn’t have the blanket.”
Pam said she called centre management but had no luck retrieving the item.
She said she was “quite surprised” to receive the phone call on Wednesday 29 May.
“That was so nice and thoughtful of them; it restores faith in human nature … so will treat myself to something soon.”
