NARRE Warren couple Tom and Dulcie Corss have spent the last 60 years together and still laugh and smile like they only met yesterday.
The two will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary next Thursday.
They were married on 1 February, 1947 – six months after they first laid eyes on each other.
Tom recalls the special moment as if it was yesterday.
“I had not long come out of the army after the end of World War II and I was staying at my uncle’s house and he invited some family and friends over for dinner.
“That’s when I first met Dulcie,” Tom said.
Tom jokes that he “left one war to start another – and the first one only lasted six years” but it is clear there are few battles between the two.
Tom, 84 and Dulcie, 82, plan to spend their special day together at their Narre Warren home.
“I actually took the wife and daughter out for dinner the other day. We usually go out with the whole family but that can get a bit hectic,” Tom said.
Hectic may be an understatement because the couple have three children, nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren coming along to most family functions.
“We also went for a drive around Lakeside in Pakenham there and that was nice.”
The couple moved from Watsonia about six years ago to be closer to their family and say they have settled in nicely in Narre Warren.
And Tom’s tip for any newlyweds looking to get to the diamond anniversary mark?
“Just enjoy each other’s company,” he said
