Cranbourne fights it out

CRANBOURNE bowlers came up 15 shots short in their pennant bowls match against second side Mooroolbark on Saturday.
The side found itself undermanned, but fought out the match admirably and only fell behind after the break.
Cranbourne won only one rink – that of skip Peter Colthup, who was standing in for his skip Lyn Quigg and performed well with his team to win by four shots.
Peter Elgar’s rink played well to hold its opponents to a two-shot loss.
Scores: Cranbourne 89 lost to Mooroolbark 104. P. Colthup 25-21, P. Elgar 27-29, B. Gay 18-26, R. Layfield 19-28.
Cranbourne (2) was a little unlucky to drop its match against Dandenong Club by two shots overall.
The side won one rink and lost two in close tussles with competitive matches. The rink of the consistent Ian Barrenger came to the fore again with an excellent performance to win by 10 shots.

Cranbourne (3) side escaped from what appeared to be certain defeat after 60 ends against Mulgrave Country Club.
The Cranbourne side was down by 20 shots and struggling on three rinks, but lifted after the break to blitz Mulgrave and win running away by 17 shots overall.

Cranbourne (4) overcame some early jitters to overrun a persistent Boronia side by 23 shots overall and won three rinks.
Skip John MacInnes led the way with a 16 shot win. This side will now finish on top and is assured of playing finals starting 10 March.

Cranbourne (5) was tested at Coatesville and came away with an 18-shot win and won three rinks.
Sofia Raiti was in top form to deliver an 18-shot win on his rink. The side is assured of playing finals after finishing on top with one match to play.

Cranbourne (6) had a walkover from Burden Park.

Cranbourne (1) hosted Edithvale and was beaten on the last end for a two-shot overall loss.
Cranbourne was competitive on all rinks with the teams of skip Elsie Anderson and Bernice Helle winning by margins of four and one shot respectively.
Scores: Cranbourne 90 lost to Edithvale 92. E. Anderson 28-24, B. Helle 23-22, S. Venville 21-23, T. Lennon 18-23.
Cranbourne (2) jeopardised its final chances when it lost a vital game against Willow Lodge by eight shots overall.
Cranbourne won well on two rinks with the team of Isabel Smith playing outstanding bowls, but it wasn’t enough to win the match overall.

Cranbourne (3) was successful in a competitive match at Burden Park and won overall by 13 shots, winning one rink each.
