COLLINGWOOD players spent Tuesday in the local area, visiting two Casey schools and then holding an Auskick Superclinic at Dandenong to promote football and help students with their skills.
Team captain and Brownlow medallist Nathan Buckley visited students at the Gleneagles Campus of Eumemmerring Secondary College accompanied by fellow player Chad Morrison.
The visit was in support of the school’s year seven sport education curriculum and the Australian Football League players conducted a two-hour football clinic consisting of demonstrations, teaching and practicing various new skills and drills.
Gleneagles sport education teacher Damien Browning said it was wonderful to support the school’s curriculum with professional, expert advice and real-life experiences.
“Students enjoyed the opportunity to meet the players and learn new skills,” Mr Browning said.
Sports education coordinator Jo Tippett agreed, and said learning skills from elite professionals would enhance students’ skills and their performance both at school and out of school competition.
The effort was supported by Football Victoria and the Dandenong Stingrays Football Club.
Collingwood stars Anthony Rocca and Shane O’Bree also paid a visit to Eumemmerring College’s Fountain Gate campus.
Despite wet weather conditions, students flocked into the school hall and listened to the pair give motivational speeches before students enjoyed football clinics.
The Auskick Superclinic at Shepley Oval was attended by 16 Magpie players led by stars including Brodie Holland, Alan Didak, Travis Cloke and Heath Shaw.
More than 100 children aged from four to 12 took part in activities, with Stingrays official Andrew Carson hosting a question and answer session at the end of the hour-long clinic.
