Freedman’s winning ways

By Glen Atwell
AS Lee Freedman raised his auction paddle at the Magic Millions yearling sales on the Gold Coast last Thursday, one of his exciting first starters made a winning debut at Cranbourne Racecourse.
At the annual Kids Day Out meeting, the Freedman-trained Ntini (TAB $1.70) beat home Love In The Dark and Uptown Lass to record a race-one victory in his first competitive outing.
Despite the win, Freedman was on the other side of Australia and had more important things on his mind – purchasing his next batch of potential stars.
The super trainer embarked on a bidding frenzy at the Magic Millions yearling sales on the Gold Coast and purchased two exciting yearlings.
Freedman spent $2 million in total, $1.5 million on a Redoute’s Choice – Liberty Rose colt and $500,000 on a colt by Exceed and Excel.
His $1.5 million purchase was the biggest buy of the sales.
David Hayes also enjoyed some first-start success, with Gunarani (TAB $3.10) beating home Divine Proportion and Crash Conlan in race four.
Colin Little had the only local success of the day, winning with Zubere (TAB $5.60) in race three.
Michael Kent’s galloper Romantic Dane was the only other local runner to get close, finishing second behind Aelstreet in race six.
