KEEP Casey beautiful.
That will be the aim of many residents when they take part in Clean Up Australia Day events this Sunday.
Berwick, Narre Warren South, Doveton and Endeavour Hills are all set for a spruce-up as rubbish is collected from lakes, park lands and reserves.
About 50 Narre Warren Guides will take part in the Berwick Springs Lake clean-up with more residents encouraged to help out.
Guide leader Debbie Chamberlain said the event was a great way for the girls to help out their community and at the same time learn about the environment.
“We will put it towards an environment badge for the children,” she said.
“An event like this shows that they really belong to a community.”
Ms Chamberlain said the group would meet near the lake about 9.30am and continue cleaning up the site until about 1pm.
“We are only too happy to invite other local residents down to give us a hand on the day,” she said.
Clean Up Australia chairman Ian Kiernan AO said this year’s event would focus on helping fight climate change.
“Clean Up Australia Day is targeting 1 million people to get involved on 4 March because by taking a stand in large numbers the community can bring about changes that ensure a healthy Australian environment now and for future generations,” he said.
“Clean Up Australia Day remains one of the simplest, most effective ways for large numbers of Australians to make a difference to their environment in just a few hours.”
Other clean-up events in the Casey area will take place at:
Eumemmerring Creek, Doveton. Meet at corner Power Road and Princes Highway (opposite Prince Mark Hotel), 9.30am to 11.30am.
Dandenong Police Paddocks Reserve, Endeavour Hills. Meet at end of Brady Road from 10am to 12.30pm.
Frog Hollow Reserve, Endeavour Hills. Meet at David Collins Reserve from 10am to 1pm.
