Juniors kick on with Nissan

NARRE Warren Junior Football Club has announced a five-year deal worth $13,000 with Berwick Nissan that will allow the club to keep pace with its competitors.
The sponsorship has already been used to buy new jackets for the players, but that is just the tip of the iceberg.
Steven Hassett, in charge of corporate sponsorship at Narre Warren, said there were no losers in the deal – it was great for everyone.
“The money goes to different areas; buying footballs, coaching staff, equipment and witches hats,” he said.
The club’s social activities have also been given a boost with the purchase of three new barbecues and there are plans to upgrade the car park and buy new scoreboards.
“The club is looking great. It is really family oriented. We encourage families to come down every Sunday night and it’s a really good atmosphere to be around,” Hassett said.
The club is expecting to have 17 teams this season and will hold its registration day this Sunday.
It will be Narre Warren’s second season with a girls’ under-18 side after the league successful initiated the competition in 2006.
Hassett said he thought girls shouldn’t be held back because of their age.
“Once they hit 13 or 14 they can’t play anymore. We lost a girl last year only because of her age. She was one of the best players – she was our full-forward,” he said.
“This gives her a chance to keep playing.”
