THE children turned up in record numbers and were not disappointed with the entertainment offered by the Berwick Holiday Adventures group during an annual school holiday program last week.
A medieval journey was the showcase of each day’s activities and the crowd was greeted with an entertaining performance from all of the characters involved.
Pastor Dave Marrett coordinated the five-day program and he, along with the cast, had the audience thrilled with the exciting show and colourful costumes.
Pastor Dave, as he is widely known in the community, said an average of 400 children attended the event daily with about 1000 youngsters taking part in the major finale on Friday.
The Berwick Holiday Adventures group is an initiative of the Berwick Church of Christ and is designed to care for kids and their families during the school holidays.
“It was just sensational. About 70 per cent of the children who attended were not involved in the church and it was such a great event,” Pastor Dave said.
He said a huge team of dedicated volunteers helped out over the five days and enabled the week-long event run so smoothly.
“The reaction has been fantastic. The amount of letters and e-mails I have received just in the past three days has been astronomical.
“We actually had more than 130 volunteer staff help out over the week and they were just great,” he said.
He said the event enabled children from a range of backgrounds and demographics to mix and have a really enjoyable time.
But the Berwick Holiday Adventures group will not be content with their massive effort this year and hope to create an even bigger and better show in 2008.
“We are looking to do a Mission Impossible theme next year. We want to make it a bit more contemporary,” he said.
