NARRE Warren is the kreme of Victoria’s doughnut crop following the start of construction of the state’s first Krispy Kreme outlet yesterday.
Fountain Gate will become the new doughnut capital when the world famous store, complete with a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week drive-through, opens to the public in June.
Hundreds of Krispy Kreme fans flocked to the Narre Warren North Road site to be the first in the state to experience the mouth-watering treats.
Guests were tempted by free doughnuts, a hot Krispy Kreme chocolate dipping stand and special “hot light” – the feature found in all stores indicating when the doughnuts are hot off the line.
Krispy Kreme arrived in Australia from the United States in 2003 and has since opened 15 stores in Sydney.
The new Fountain Gate store will be able to produce more than 270 dozen doughnuts per hour, offering a variety of 15 different flavours.
Krispy Kreme marketing manager Mark Gilbert said the new store would attract doughnut lovers from far and wide and create more than 100 jobs.
“This will be great for the area and make Fountain Gate a real drawcard,” he said.
“We are looking forward to working with the local community.
“It is an exciting time for us and we can’t wait to open our doors to the public.”
Krispy Kreme also makes more than a dozen other varieties of yeast-raised and cake doughnuts, real fruit pies, cinnamon buns and snack food.
