The Rotary Club of Endeavour Hills recently funded an upgrade of the playground at the Endeavour Hills UnitingCare Neighbourhood Centre.
The Neighbourhood Centre runs a not-for-profit childcare room including three-and four-year-old pre-kindergarten programs and occasional care.
Its playground was in desperate need of a renovation and the Rotary Club came to the rescue.
The Neighbourhood Centre contacted the Endeavour Hills branch late last year to tell of their childcare room’s plight.
Coordinator Bev Lamont said the centre was thrilled when Rotary agreed to take on the job of upgrading the playground.
The work included rebuilding the sandpit, constructing a ramp at the back of the room leading down to the playground and adding seats and trees.
Rotary also removed old wooden equipment that was too dangerous for younger children to play on and added tan bark.
Childcare coordinator Elizabeth Rice said the children were excited.
“The ramp is fantastic, the sandpit is bigger and they can do so much more in it, and with the wooden structure gone there is more space for the children to run and play.”
As a token of its appreciation, the childcare room held a thank-you morning tea for all the Rotary members involved in renovating the playground.
Betty Boal, chairperson of the Neighbourhood Centre Committee, presented a certificate of appreciation and said Rotary was working for the community like the Neighbourhood Centre and it was great that they could combine.
The childcare room of the neighbourhood centre is at 11 Hellyer Way, Endeavour Hills, phone 9700 3789 for the centre or 9700 3785 for the childcare room.
