A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy was rescued and resuscitated by staff at the Casey Aquatic and Recreation Centre (ARC) on Thursday afternoon.
The ARC, which is run by the Victorian YMCA, was evacuated shortly after 2.30pm to allow paramedics clear access to the facility.
Emily and Teagan, who were swimming only metres away from the child when he was rescued, said the boy was playing on the slide minutes before he appeared to be out of his depth.
“We were in the 1.5 metre pool and we heard a lifeguard yelling at everyone to get out of the pool,” Emily said.
“The lifeguard got him out of the pool and then started doing CPR.”
YMCA senior group manager Anthony Neill praised the response of his staff, as well as paramedics who arrived within four minutes to airlift the boy to the Monash Hospital.
“We were elated about the positive response, it was a pretty scary ordeal but everything operated like clockwork,” he said.
Mr Neill, who has been in regular consultation with the boy’s parents, said that the patient had made a fantastic recovery after being discharged from hospital.
