THE Endeavour United Soccer Club lost 4-1 against Heatherton in what was described as a spiteful State League three match at Parkfield Reserve on Saturday.
Yellow cards were given to both teams early in the contest as the referees attempted to clamp down on ‘professional’ infringements.
The United defenders held their ground in the first half and did not allow the hosts an opportunity to sneak one through before the break.
United winger Harry Herouvim then weaved some brilliance after creating an opening and blasted the ball past the Heatherton defenders for a super goal.
At half-time it was Endeavour United 1 and Heatherton 0.
The second half proved to be a revealing test of character after Heatherton emerged from the change rooms fired up and ready to win.
The United defence worked tirelessly, but failed to keep the Heatherton forwards at bay. Endeavour United had a number of shots on goal, but the linesman, who continued deeming the United players offside, spoiled the party.
However Heatherton was sleek in attack and found the back of the net at will, charging away to a 4-1 victory.
The United players expressed mixed emotions at the loss and have promised a supreme effort next time.
The side has slipped to fifth position on the ladder, but is not discouraged.
